There are basically three types: RV camping, tent camping and wilderness camping. Each type has different needs. The first thing is to know is which type of camping you intend to do.RV camping allows for many conveniences, however, if the campgrounds does not offer electricity at its sites you'll want to purchase a generator to supply it. You will also need tire chucks to keep it from rolling once you remove the camper from your car hitch. Most rvs have bathrooms and two important accessories for this are the chemicals for the toilet and RV toilet paper. Household toilet paper can cause plumbing problems.
Camping accessories when using tents are different than when using RVs. Your source of light will come from either battery operated lanterns or lanterns that use fuel. With small children it is safer to use the battery ones. Another necessity is air mattresses or sleeping cots. This will protect you from the dampness on the ground. A good camp stove is a must unless you plan to cook every meal over an open campfire.
Some important accessories you might consider would be water jugs for carrying water back to your campsite, dish pans for washing your dishes, a large tarp for keeping firewood dry and cooking utensils. The best pans for outdoor cooking are heavy cast iron ones because these will cook evenly and can withstand a lot of heat.
If pack backing is your gig the most important things will be a light weight tent and plenty of water. Add a flashlight and grub and you have your basic camping accessories for a wilderness trip! The idea is to bring only necessities that you can carry on your back.
